This legislation is a tribute to the courage, determination and perseverance of the Hillsborough families, who spent decades campaigning for truth, accountability and justice. Their unwavering resolve has not only honoured the memory of those who lost their lives but has also helped secure lasting change to ensure future generations are better protected.

The passage of the Hillsborough Law is an important milestone and a testament to what can be achieved when families and communities refuse to give up their fight for justice.

A particularly moving moment was the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag at the Civic Centre by the Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Dai “Chick” Jones, and the Mayor, Councillor David Isaac.

Armed Forces Day provides an opportunity to recognise and thank the men and women who serve, and all those who have served, in our Armed Forces. Their dedication, professionalism and sacrifice help keep our country safe, and we owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude.

The deal will help strengthen trade with one of the UK’s most important economic partners and support key sectors including finance, technology and professional services.

Reaching the finals is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work, quality and dedication of the whole team. Koz has become a much-loved local business, and it was wonderful to see their efforts recognised at a UK-wide awards ceremony.

Congratulations to everyone at Koz Restaurant on this well-deserved success. They have made Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare proud.

Through the UK Government’s Youth Guarantee, support is available for employers, including grants of up to £3,000 for hiring young people aged 18–24, alongside fully funded placements for those who have been out of work for longer periods.

This is a great opportunity for businesses to invest in local talent, strengthen their workforce and support the next generation in our community.

Matalan continues to be an important employer and a valued part of our community, providing jobs and a great shopping experience for local families.

During the visit, I also joined GTFM for a live interview, discussing the positive impact that local investment can have on Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare, supporting both our economy and our communities.

A campaign is currently calling for additional investment in ALN provision across Wales to ensure schools and colleges have the resources they need to meet growing demand.

During the visit, I learned more about the opportunities and support they provide to individuals across our communities, helping people develop skills, gain experience and move into long-term work.

Organisations such as ELITE play a vital role in creating opportunities and improving lives, and it was fantastic to see the impact of their work first-hand.

Castle Bingo is much more than a place for a game of bingo—it is a valued community hub where people come together, socialise and support one another. During my visit, it was also great to catch up with Jason and the team to hear about their ongoing fundraising efforts for Variety, the Children’s Charity, and the positive difference this support continues to make.

Events like this are a great reminder of the strong community spirit that exists across Merthyr Tydfil & Aberdare, bringing people of all ages together and creating opportunities to catch up with friends, neighbours and familiar faces.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success, including Cllr Gareth Richards, Jayne Edwards, Treharris Phoenix RFC, the volunteers, sponsors and community organisations involved. Their hard work and dedication created a brilliant event that was enjoyed by families from across the area.

Community spirit truly was on display at its very best.
